Skeptics might raise eyebrows at the mention of church fundraising. A church is not designed to be corporate. Besides, it belongs to the Almighty, not people who have need for material things.  However, just like any organization, churches do need funds. They have causes that cannot be met without financial support. This is why church fund raising exists. Moreover, this is why it is very important for a church to make its causes known. More than that, it needs to make people understand and believe in this cause. This way it gets support, a key aspect in ensuring the success of this endeavour.

Think of it as a campaign. If you wish to set up a successful fund raising, carefully plan and organize a campaign strategy. Your object is to get supporters to help your cause. So first, you have to establish awareness about your cause. Advertise. The important thing is to connect with people. Build up a good image of your congregation. Churches raise funds for projects promoting its well-being and the well-being of its people. Emphasize this. Let your “value proposition” be heard. People have always been willing to support a good cause.

Once you have established this, you can now ask for donations. One of the most popular ways to do this is through written letters. It would also be a good idea to create donor recognition plans. This means you acknowledge your donors’ contributions. You can do this by recognizing them during church, giving tokens of appreciation, or even having their names printed on structures (if there are any) funded by their donations.

If you are not particularly sold out with this option, you could always opt to try other ideas. These include staging fund raising activities such as bake sales, garage sales, car washes, and many others. The good thing about this is that you get many people from your community involved. Moreover, it could be fun too. The key to success here is to carry out an activity that coincides with your cause. And, of course, to delegate responsibilities to volunteers who can best carry them out.
